Shinemon Kiln is renowned for its mastery of “Yohen”, the firing technique that transforms glaze colors inside the kiln to create gem-like tones and crystalline effects.
Until around 1965, the kiln specialized in producing large-scale works measuring two to three shaku in height.
In more recent years, Shinemon Kiln has focused on Yohen-style creations, including deep ruby-red copper glazes (Tensha) and oil-spot tenmoku glazes that reveal silver-white or golden-brown crystals.
Because even subtle differences in kiln temperature, humidity, or the placement of each piece in the kiln can affect the outcome, no two works are ever identical.
Collectors and enthusiasts are drawn to the kiln’s one-of-a-kind pieces, each born from the unpredictable beauty of fire and glaze.
