Collection: Kutani Ware Kumidashishi-wan Set (Tea Bowl Set)

A "Kumidashi-wan" is a small bowl traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies and everyday dining. It serves a variety of purposes, particularly the following:

Main Features and Uses:

  • A bowl for serving tea or liquids
The name "kumidashi" comes from the verb kumidasu (汲み出す), meaning "to scoop or pour out liquid." Thus, a kumidashi-wan is a vessel used for serving tea or broth.

  • Used for serving sencha, bancha, hojicha, etc.
Unlike matcha, which is served in a chawan (tea bowl), kumidashi-wan is typically used to offer everyday teas like sencha or hojicha to guests. It is often paired with a chataku (tea saucer or coaster).

  • Shape
It usually has a wide mouth and shallow form. Designed to fit comfortably in the hand, it holds a relatively small amount of liquid.
