Collection: Arita ware Ryoshu Kiln

Ryoshu Kiln is renowned for its distinctive and elegant red overglaze painting, a hallmark of its refined craftsmanship.

In Arita, there are two main types of kilns: hon-yaki (main firing kilns) and akae (red overglaze painting kilns).
Ryoshu Kiln originally belonged to the latter, specializing in the delicate art of red enamel decoration.

The kiln is especially famous for its “Tako-karakusa” (Octopus Arabesque) design — a modern interpretation of a traditional Japanese arabesque pattern.
Intricate details and subtle variations give each piece a sense of warmth and sophistication.

The arabesque motif, which extends gracefully across the entire surface, has long been appreciated for its beauty and auspicious meaning.
Since the octopus symbolizes good fortune and prosperity spreading outward, Ryoshu Kiln’s creations are also cherished as gifts for celebratory occasions.
