Arita Ware Kakiemon Kiln

Kakiemon is said to be the first to develop the Akae (red overglaze enamel) technique in Japan. One of the most distinctive features of Kakiemon ware is the “Nigoshide”, a soft and warm milky-white porcelain base that enhances the elegance of its colorful designs.Today, the technique is carried on by the 15th generation Kakiemon.
The 14th generation Kakiemon was designated as a Living National Treasure (Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property), and the Nigoshide technique itself is officially recognized as a National Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan.
The Kakiemon style, characterized by asymmetrical compositions that make use of negative space to highlight the pure white porcelain surface, often depicts delicate flowers, plants, and birds of the natural world — a timeless expression of refined Japanese beauty.
