What Is a Yunomi? | The Traditional Japanese Teacup
A Yunomi (湯呑み) is a traditional Japanese teacup designed primarily for drinking everyday Japanese tea. Unlike Western teacups, a yunomi has no handle and is intended to be held directly in the hands, allowing the drinker to appreciate the warmth of the tea and the texture of the ceramic.
Yunomi are commonly used for green tea varieties such as sencha, bancha, hojicha, and genmaicha, making them one of the most familiar and widely used vessels in Japanese households.
